Gluten Free Grocery Haul!
Hey guys! Today I decided to show you a sample of what I typically get at the grocery store. I have celiac disease which means that I can’t have anything with gluten in it. Gluten is found in products that contain wheat, barley, and rye which is typically found in the bread, cereal and pasta group on the food pyramid. Meats with breading on it are also not safe for people with celiac. Luckily, there are lots of gluten free substitutes out there. I’ll talk a lot more about this topic in my next video on YouTube, but now let’s get into the items:
To start off, I got some PerDue Simply Smart Gluten Free Breaded Chicken Tenders. This is my go-to meat product because it’s very simple to prepare and it tastes really good. You can simply throw it in the microwave for about a minute and a half and it’s ready (though you can also use an oven, but I’m lazy). There is also a regular breaded chicken tenders by PerDue that’s exactly the same, but just includes gluten.
Next, an essential. Oakhurst 1% Lowfat Milk. As a child, my favorite drink was milk. Fun fact: a lot of people with celiac disease are also lactose intolerant. I am slightly lactose intolerant, which means I can have some, but if I overdo it, it can cause some problems. I used to drink nothing but milk as a child, but now I only drink one maybe two glasses a day.
Minute Maid Apple Juice Boxes. I go through two packages in one week because I drink them so much. There’s just something about apple juice boxes that I’ve always loved. I had always felt that bottled apple juice and boxed apple juice had a different taste and I preferred the boxed apple juices. I know, it sounds very kindergarten. One of my ex-boyfriends told me so when we were dating. Whatever.
Poland Spring Go Sized Water Bottles. Fresh water is an essential. I like the go-sized water bottles because it’s the perfect amount of water for me.
Two cans of Hormel Chili. There are several different kinds, but I like the kind that’s hot with beans. This is a go-to lunch for me especially on days when I work and have to prepare a lunch to bring with me ahead of time. It only takes about five minutes to prepare. You just simply heat it on a stovetop and stir it occasionally. Can you tell I’m lazy?
Two packs of Heartland Gluten Free Penne Pasta. Hands down, this is the best gluten free pasta in my opinion. I have tried a lot of different kinds, and they taste very bland. They taste like nothing to me. This pasta is the closest to regular pasta that I’ve had. I have this for dinner almost every night.
Now onto the non-food items:
Toilet paper. Because I was running out.
Tidy Cats Kitty Litter. Also because I was running out. In case you don’t know, I do indeed have a cat.
And that’s all I bought at the grocery store. I had also wanted to buy some gluten free bread, but they didn’t have any. None. At all. I was very disappointed. Again, I’m saving the rant for the YouTube video. Can you guess what it is yet? Anyway, that’s all for today’s post. Talk to you all next week!
I bought a bag of potatoes. Just wash one, throw it in the microwave then turn it upside down slowly every 20 to 30 seconds (with a tong) until the skin is wrinkled showing sign that it has lost sufficient moisture and should be soft inside. Cut and dip in ketchup to eat. Haven't try any big potatoes yet so I don't know if the middle of them will be sufficiently cooked using this method.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who used to work in a corner store. In a blind test we gave him he can always tell whether the glass of coke came from a can, a glass bottle or a plastic bottle. He can also tell you the size of the bottle it came from. I found that amazing and would not be a bit surprised that apple juice works the same way.
